Description

Lilaeopsis Brasiliensis

Lilaeopsis brasiliensis from South America can grow very compact, but a “lawn effect” (4-7 cm tall) is only achieved at high light intensity.
When planting in the aquarium small clumps (approx. 1/8 pot) should be placed a few centimetres apart to help the plants grow together more quickly.
Place in an open position without shading from other plants to ensure good light.
Lilaeopsis brasiliensis can be used in garden ponds, and also tolerates low salt concentrations in brackish aquariums.

Medium 1-2-GROW!, Small plants with great success. 1•2•Grow! Are very young plants cultivated and delivered directly from our laboratory. The plants are guaranteed to be free from snails, algae and pesticides and therefore are totally harmless for sensitive shrimp and fish. The range offers unique plants!, Success with your aquarium depends largely on the proper plant choice. In a 1•2•Grow! cup you buy a myriad of plants which can be divided into small portions and cover a larger area. Plants are compact from the start so you will experience a dense and beautiful growth, if you give them the right fertiliser and CO2 from the start! The range is perfect for small and medium sized aquariums, and your patience will be rewarded…, The range offers several mosses and specialties such as Rotala macrandra, Rotala ‘Bonsai’ and mini versions of traditional varieties such as Alternanthera and Eleocharis., See our video about how to handle these plants here or read below.
Carefully take the plant out of the cup and rinse off the growing media under the tap. Split the plant in 6-8 portions using your fingers or sharp scissors (for small foreground plants).
Plant portions into the substrate using tweezers. Then watch them grow!

Lilaeopsis brasiliensis for a Singapore Lawn

This is a classic grassy carpet, often called micro sword, and we like it for hobbyists who want a fine, lawn-like front without the extreme demands of the smallest carpets. The short blades creep across the substrate into a tidy turf that suits nano and mid-sized layouts. Arriving as tissue culture, it is clean of snails, algae and pesticides, making it an easy, shrimp-safe choice.

The real lawn effect, where it stays low at around 4-7cm, only appears under high light, so give it an open, unshaded spot at the front of the tank. Plant small clumps a couple of centimetres apart to help them knit together faster. In our warm 27-29C water it is a steady rather than rapid spreader, so patience and consistent light produce the densest, most even turf.

See more lawns in our foreground plants range. Compare it with other carpets in our carpet plant comparison, and if it is slow to fill, our carpet not spreading fix covers the causes.
