Indostomus Crocodilus, a Nano Micro-Predator for SG
Indostomus crocodilus, the armoured stickleback, is a tiny, slow-moving specialist that rewards patient nano keepers. At barely a few centimetres it is built for small, mature, gently filtered tanks rather than busy community setups, which makes it a neat fit for the compact nano scapes popular in Singapore homes where space is tight. We keep ours in calm water with fine-leaved plants and plenty of cover, where they hover and stalk rather than dash about.
The honest care note is feeding: these fish are micro-predators that strongly prefer small live and frozen foods such as baby brine shrimp and micro-worms, and many simply will not take dry flake. A seasoned tank with a healthy population of microfauna helps enormously, so we suggest established setups over brand-new ones. They are easily out-competed by fast, boisterous tank-mates, so keep their company small, slow and peaceful so they actually get to eat.
Our ambient temperatures suit them without a heater. Browse our guppies and livebearers range, and for compatible nano companions and a maturing planted base see our caridina shrimp care guide and Hygrophila difformis care guide.
