Keeping Clown Killi in Singapore Nano Tanks
The clown killi (Epiplatys annulatus) is a tiny, peaceful surface dweller that suits the small planted nanos so many SG hobbyists keep. They show their best colour in soft, slightly acidic, dimly lit water with plenty of floating cover and fine-leaved plants, which our chloraminated tap water can approximate once dechlorinated and gently softened. A tight-fitting lid is essential as they are skilled jumpers.
They are too small and shy for boisterous tankmates, so keep them in a species tank or with equally gentle nano fish and shrimp. Feed small surface foods like micro pellets and frozen or live baby brine. At our ambient 27-29C they generally do fine without a heater, though stable temperature and clean water matter more than chasing a specific number.
Acclimate slowly using the float-and-net steps above. For setup and breeding, see our clown killifish care guide and nano aquascape guide. More fish in killifish.
