Echinodorus ‘Qu Yuan’ for SG planted aquascapes

‘Qu Yuan’ is one of the Asian-cultivated Echinodorus varieties grown for its decorative foliage, and we like it as a single focal rosette in a midground position rather than planted in dense clumps. As with every sword, plant only the roots into the substrate and keep the central crown exposed at the surface; burying the crown is the usual cause of rot in newly added plants. Trim off battered outer leaves on arrival so the plant invests in fresh growth.

It is an undemanding rosette plant that tolerates the typical range of community-tank water, and in Singapore’s warm 27-29C it grows without a heater in most HDB and condo tanks. Because swords draw most of their nutrients through the roots, a nutrient-rich substrate or root tablets help it colour up and put out larger leaves. Expect emersed nursery leaves to be shed and replaced by submersed ones over the first weeks.

It is listed in our wider live plants range. For care specifics see our sword care guide and root tabs guide, and acclimate it gently with our plant acclimatisation guide.
