Keeping Hemigraphis Repanda in Singapore Aquariums
Hemigraphis Repanda is a versatile plant prized for its narrow, dark-tinged leaves that bring colour and texture to a planted tank. It is best known as a marsh plant that grows beautifully emersed, with its foliage in air, which makes it a natural fit for paludariums, Wabi-Kusa and the upper, above-water sections of a terrarium. Grown submersed it can hold for a time, but it truly thrives when allowed to reach into humid air.
That suits Singapore setups well, since our ambient humidity supports emersed growth with little extra effort. Acclimatise new stems gently, as plants shifting between emersed and submersed forms can drop leaves before settling, which is normal. Tropical 27-29C water suits it, and treating tap water for chlorine and chloramine protects new roots. As with all imported plants, give it a careful rinse and inspection before adding it to a tank with shrimp or sensitive fish.
It is a rewarding plant for vertical and emersed work. Browse more in our live plants range, and for placement read our emersed vs submersed plants guide and emersed section guide.
