Using the ANS Crystal Shrimp Shelter in a local bee shrimp tank

A dedicated shelter gives Crystal Red and other Caridina bees somewhere dark to retreat after a moult, when their fresh shells are soft and they are most vulnerable to being picked on. The two-piece large set stacks to create overlapping caves and tight gaps that adult shrimp and berried females tuck into, lowering stress in a busy colony. We see better visible numbers and calmer behaviour in tanks that offer plenty of these hiding points rather than open hardscape alone.

Position the shelters near the substrate where biofilm naturally settles, since shrimp graze the surfaces while sheltering. In Singapore, the bigger challenge for Caridina is keeping cool, soft water stable, so combine good cover with steady temperature and consistent TDS. Rinse the pieces in old tank water during maintenance rather than tap, so you do not strip the biofilm and bacteria your shrimp feed on.
