Description
Colorado Sand is natural sand in natural reddish color. It is suitable for general aquarium use and also good as cosmetic sand for planted aquarium. It has a wide array of uses without affecting water quality. It is great to place a thin layer of Colorado Sand on the bottom of a small aquarium with WABI-KUSA.
ADA Colorado Sand for Singapore Aquascapes
Colorado Sand is one of our favourite cosmetic finishes for adding warmth to a layout, its natural reddish tone reading beautifully against green plants and dark wood. We use it most often as a thin foreground path or open clearing in a planted scape, where it catches the eye without dominating. Because it is inert, it does not push your water parameters around, so it pairs safely with the soft, slightly acidic tap water common in local tanks.
Lay it as a shallow cosmetic layer rather than a deep bed, and keep a low barrier or gentle grade between it and nutrient soil so the two do not mix during maintenance. In our warm climate, organic debris settling on light sand is more visible, so we siphon the surface lightly at each water change to keep the colour clean. It also shines in a Wabi-Kusa arrangement as a natural base.
