Cardinal Tetra looks very similar and is often confused with the Neon Tetra. The Cardinal Tetra will have the red stripe the full length of its body on the lower half, whereas the Neon Tetra will have the red stripe only half way. These tetras make excellent community tank mates and for best results you should keep them in a school (shoal) of 6 or more.

How To Safely Add Fish To Tank

  1. Set live stock aside with transportation bag in room temperature place for 30 minutes.
  2. Then transfer bag to float in aquarium for another 30 minutes
  3. Use a fish net to transfer the live stock by scooping it from the bag into the tank.

Note: Do not release live stocks together with the transportation water into tank.

Keeping Cardinal Tetras in Singapore Tanks

Cardinal Tetras are one of the most rewarding shoaling fish we sell for a planted display, and they thrive in conditions Singapore taps give us naturally. They evolved in soft, slightly acidic Amazonian blackwater, so our soft local supply suits them well once dechlorinated for chloramine. Keep them in a group of at least eight to twelve; a tight, well-fed shoal holds together and shows off that full-length neon-and-red stripe far better than a handful of stressed singletons ever will.

Acclimatise carefully when your order arrives: rest the bag closed for half an hour, then float it to equalise temperature before a slow drip or gradual mix over the next thirty minutes. Our 27-29C ambient water is comfortable for them, so a heater is usually optional indoors. A planted, gently shaded scape with some leaf litter or botanicals brings out their colour and makes them feel secure against open swimming space.
