Red Neon Paskai Tetra for Planted Singapore Tanks
The Red Neon Paskai is a small, peaceful South American tetra that shows a warm red-orange flush along the body, deepening when the fish is settled and well fed. Like most tetras it is a true shoaler, so colour and natural behaviour only emerge when you keep a group of at least eight to ten. In a tight shoal they spread out, display to one another and become a lively splash of red in the mid-water.
They look their best over dark substrate with planting and gentle, tannin-tinted water, which mutes harsh light and brings out the reds. Singapore’s soft, slightly acidic tap water actually suits them once dechlorinated, and our ambient 27-29C is comfortable, so most local keepers run them heaterless. Feed small, varied foods and keep nitrates low with regular water changes to maintain that signature colour.
