Cryptocoryne Wendtii ‘Brown’ care in Singapore tanks

Wendtii Brown is the crypt we hand to almost every first-time planted-tank owner in Singapore. It is genuinely hard to kill, grows at a manageable moderate pace, and thrives in low to medium light without CO2, which suits low-tech HDB setups perfectly. Planted in a small group across the midground, it spreads by sending up plantlets from the mother rhizome, gradually building a warm bronze-brown band of foliage.

Our soft, slightly acidic local tap water sits comfortably in its preferred range once dechlorinated, and ambient 27-29C means no heater is needed in most homes. Root tabs in the substrate keep leaves broad and richly coloured. Expect the classic crypt melt in the first weeks after planting, then steady regrowth of hardier submerged leaves. Propagation is as simple as snipping the new plantlets off the rhizome once they have rooted.
