Description
Taxiphyllum ‘Flame’
Aquarium plant from tissue culture in closed cup.
Asian Flame moss got its name from its form of growth. Tight, vertical and softly undulating shoots give the impression of a deep green campfire, 5-15 cm high.
The special shape makes Flame moss very suitable for horizontal surfaces and it only spreads slowly horizontally.
Attach the moss to small stones or in small bundles on tree roots to obtain a lovely effect.

Flame Moss: Upright Texture for Singapore Scapes
Flame moss earns its name honestly, growing in tight, vertical, gently twisting shoots that really do look like green flames licking upward. That upright habit makes it different from sprawling mosses and ideal for adding height and movement to a flat surface, the top of a stone, or the crown of a piece of driftwood. We like it as a contrast plant in nature-style and hardscape-heavy layouts, where its structure draws the eye without overwhelming the scene.
It spreads slowly sideways, which is actually a feature in tight HDB and nano tanks, since it stays where you put it instead of taking over. In our warm 27-29C tanks it grows at a measured pace; good light and a little CO2 encourage denser, taller flames. Arriving as a clean tissue-cultured portion, it goes in free of pest snails and algae, ready to attach to your chosen hardscape.
For the best effect, read our flame moss care guide and our moss attachment methods. Compare it with other species in our moss types comparison, and browse more epiphytes.
