Hints
This filigree moss, also known as „nano-moss“ is rife in the northern hemisphere as well as in South America and Australia. Like all mosses, the Amblystegium moss is ideal for greening roots and stones and thanks to its very fine and upright shoots an interesting addition to other moss species. Especially important: Fresh and clear water. The fresh light green color looks very contrasting in combination with other shades of green in an underwater landscape.
Amblystegium serpens nano-moss for SG nano scapes
This fine, upright little moss has earned its nano-moss nickname for good reason: its delicate light-green shoots stay compact and look right at home in the small nano cubes and desktop tanks that suit HDB and condo living. We like it for softening the lines of bonsai-style driftwood and wrapping the tops of stones, where its fresh colour reads as a brighter accent against darker mosses and ferns.
It does ask for clean, well-circulated water to look its best, so it pairs naturally with a sponge or hang-on filter that keeps a gentle current moving across it. Our tanks run warm at 27-29C, comfortably within range for this moss, though steady flow and the odd trim to remove trapped detritus matter more than chasing high light. A few Amano shrimp grazing through the strands keep it tidy.
Pick it up from our epiphytes section, then see our moss types compared guide and attaching moss to driftwood walkthrough to mount it well.
