Hints
A new genus takes aquatics by storm! The endemic genus Bucephalandra is only found in Borneo and like the Cryptocorynes and Anubias it belongs to the arum family. The exact scientific definition is currently very uncertain, so we get the name of this variety from the habit of the plant. Bucephalandra species are epiphytes and should therefore be attached to stones and roots. The ‘Bukit Kelam’ variety grows especially vigorously and is a decorative beauty. An ideal plant for Nano Cubes!
Dennerle Bucephalandra Wavy Leaf: A Borneo Native for SG Nano Tanks
We love stocking Bucephalandra for Singapore scapers because this genus comes from Borneo, just across the water, and it relishes the warm, soft, slightly-acidic conditions our tap water naturally provides. The Wavy Leaf form in a pot gives you a compact, slow-growing epiphyte with rippled edges that catch light beautifully in a nano cube. As an epiphyte it must be attached to hardscape, never buried, so the rhizome stays exposed and healthy.
After unpotting, rinse the rock wool from the rhizome and glue or tie the plant to driftwood or stone. New Buce often sheds a leaf or two as it adjusts to submerged life under your lights; this melt is normal and new growth follows. Keep flow gentle and stable, run it at our ambient 27-29C without a chiller, and resist moving it around, because Bucephalandra hates being disturbed once it has rooted in.
Explore more in our epiphytes range, and lean on our Bucephalandra care guide and green wavy care guide for specifics. If leaves brown after planting, our browning leaves fix sorts it out.
