Description
Cryptocoryne spec. ´Flamingo´PRODUCT DESCRIPTION ‘Flamingo’ is an extraordinary Cryptocoryne cultivar with light to dark pink leaves. It is exclusively propagated in tissue culture. This conspicuous crypt grows very slowly and should be well lit. It is highly decorative in the foreground and midground of small and nano tanks and provides an effective contrast to green plants such as mosses and Hemianthus callitrichoides.
The leaf coloration is variable. The leaves of emersed potted plants are mostly rather green, but the plant will develop pink submerged leaves after planting into the aquarium.
Cryptocoryne ‘Flamingo’ care for Singapore aquascapes
Flamingo is the pink showpiece crypt, and it is the one we most often warn hobbyists to slow down with. Being tissue-cultured and very slow growing, it needs strong, stable lighting to hold its colour and it rewards patience rather than fiddling. In our warm 27-29C tanks it does not need a heater, and a touch of CO2 with consistent fertilisation noticeably deepens the pink in submerged growth.
We recommend gently separating the tissue-culture portion, rinsing off the gel, and planting small clusters into a rich substrate with a root tab nearby. The emersed leaves you receive look green at first; the signature pink develops once it converts underwater, so do not judge it on arrival. Because it is delicate and pricey, give it a low-traffic spot in the foreground or midground where it will not be uprooted by larger fish.
