Description
Medium, Brown Cryptocoryne
C421 is yet another variety of C. wendtii – a medium-sized, brown Cryptocoryne that grows well and is an easy plant.
Leaves above the surface are rusty brown, below the surface they are a chocolate brown.
Planting tip: Keep these plants small and compact by planting in a clay pot. Press the pot directly into the substrate.
By limiting the space available for the roots, the plants stay smaller and create an effect similar to a bonsai tree.

Hints
Cryptocoryne wendtii C421 Care for Singapore Hobbyists
We recommend this brown C421 wendtii variety as a workhorse midground plant for SG community tanks. It is undemanding, grows well in our warm 27-29C water and soft, slightly-acidic local tap supply, and needs no CO2 to thrive. Above water the leaves run rusty brown; submerged they deepen to a rich chocolate tone that contrasts beautifully against bright green stems and carpets, giving a low-tech scape real depth without much effort from you.
A handy trick we share with customers is planting C421 in a small clay pot pressed into the substrate. Restricting the roots keeps the plant compact, almost bonsai-like, which is ideal for nano and shelf tanks in flats. Expect the usual crypt melt for a week or two after planting; leave the crown alone and new submerged leaves push through. Once settled, it spreads gently by runners that you can split and replant.
