Bucephalandra Brownie Blue Care in Singapore

Brownie Blue is one of the more eye-catching Brownie selections, named for the bluish iridescence its mature leaves can throw under good light, set against a brown-toned base. Offered in pot or tissue-culture cup, it is a hardy Borneo rhizome plant that copes easily with our ambient 27-29C water without temperature control. Its slow, compact habit makes it well suited to the nano and shrimp tanks that fill many HDB and condo aquariums across the island.

If you choose the tissue-culture cup, rinse the gel from the roots before mounting, then glue or tie the rhizome to rock or driftwood and keep it above the substrate, since burying it causes rot in warm tap water. Low to moderate light brings out the blue sheen without triggering algae, and gentle flow keeps the slow leaves clean. A short adjustment period with minor melt is normal as cultured plants convert to submerged growth in your tank.

For handling cultured stock see our fixing melting tissue culture plants guide, and for full parameters read Bucephalandra care. Browse companions in our epiphytes range.
