Description
Info
The species walkeri comes from Sri Lanka, like many good growing Cryptocoryn. The exact location in the central highlands of the variety legroi is not really known. The growth of this beautifully colored water calyx is much slower with a growth height up to a maximum of 15 cm. The color pattern ranges from olive green to reddish brown. The Cryptocoryne walkeri var. legroi is a highlight in the foreground area in combination with bright green plants

Cryptocoryne walkeri var. legroi for SG foreground colour
This walkeri variety is a compact, slow-growing crypt prized for its shifting olive-green to reddish-brown tones, and it earns its place at the front of a planted tank where that colour can play against brighter green neighbours. Staying under about 15cm, it suits the foreground and midground of nano and mid-sized aquariums common in Singapore flats. Our warm 27-29C water keeps it ticking along without a heater.
We pot it into a nutrient-rich substrate and slip a root tab beneath the rosette, since crypts draw most of their food through the roots. Moderate to strong light and a modest CO2 supply intensify the colouration, though it will hold in lower-tech setups too. As with the whole genus, expect a short adjustment period after transfer while it converts to submerged leaves and settles into your water chemistry.
