ANS Old Black Driftwood for Planted and River Layouts

Old Black Driftwood is prized for its dark tone and textured grain, which reads with real depth in planted and river-style scapes. Because it comes in a wide ladder of sizes from XS through XXL, you can build an entire composition from one wood type, using smaller pieces as secondary roots that branch off a larger main piece. The dark colour throws greens and reds in your plants into sharp relief and gives shrimp and small fish a natural-looking refuge.

As with all real wood, expect amber tannins and a brief biofilm phase early on; both are harmless and ease with water changes, carbon or simply time. A soak or boil helps dense pieces sink and pulls tannins forward, and the gentle softening effect suits the acidic-loving species many local hobbyists keep in our naturally soft tap water. Dry-fit your layout before flooding to lock in the most natural branching.
