Echinodorus Small Bear is a very pretty, uncomplicated aquatic plant, also highly recommended for beginners. Echinodorus SmallBear belongs to the family Alismataceae. The hard-leaved plant is also suitable for aquariums with cichlids or emersed for a paludarium.
The aquatic plant has medium light requirements. Echinodorus Small Bear feels comfortable in a pH range between 5.8 and 7.5 in soft to medium-hard water. The water temperature should be between 18 and 32 ° Celsius. It is therefore also recommended for discus aquariums.
The red color of the leaves becomes stronger the more light is available to the plant. Echinodorus Small Bear grows medium fast and thanks a CO2 supply and a good supply of nutrients with a particularly beautiful leaf color! The height that can be achieved is approx. 25 cm. Propagation takes place via offshoots and rhizome division.

Growing Echinodorus Small Bear in Singapore Tanks

This compact sword is one of the most forgiving rosette plants we stock for local hobbyists. In our experience it settles happily into the 27-29C ambient range most HDB and condo tanks run at without a heater, and it tolerates the soft, slightly acidic water that comes out of Singapore taps once dechlorinated. Give it a nutrient-rich substrate and it rewards you with broad, sturdy leaves that anchor a midground or smaller background without overwhelming a nano layout.

Echinodorus are heavy root feeders rather than water-column gluttons, so the single biggest improvement most customers see comes from tucking root tabs under the crown every couple of months. Moderate light keeps it compact; very strong light pushes leggy growth that crowds neighbours. It does not strictly need CO2, but a little injected carbon noticeably tightens the rosette and deepens the colour, which suits the high-tech aquascapes popular here.
