Bucephalandra sp. ‘Red’ Potted for Singapore Tanks
The ‘Red’ Bucephalandra varieties bring warm reddish tones to a layout, growing in nature on rocks and wood in flowing rivers much like Anubias. This potted form lets you establish it quickly: rinse off the rockwool, divide the rhizome, and attach pieces to hardscape. As with the whole genus, never cover the creeping rhizome when planting, as doing so will cause it to rot and the plant to fail.
Bucephalandra is slow-growing and tolerant of lower light, making it a dependable choice for the compact tanks many Singapore keepers run at home. The reddish colouring tends to show best under stronger light with steady CO2, though the plant survives happily without either. Expect some melt as it acclimates to your water, then patient, low-maintenance growth. Our 27-29C room conditions suit it without any special heating or cooling.
