Description
Aegagropila linnaei is a very peculiar little aquarium plant. It is a ball-shaped species of green algae with a velvety surface. This form is rarely found in nature; usually they grow in flatter, carpet-like colonies. The interesting round shape is created by gentle wave action along the substrate. Because they tend to grow extremely slowly, moss balls are very popular for use in Nano Cubes and other small aquariums. Combined with stones and roots they give rise to highly attractive designs and layouts.

Aegagropila linnaei moss balls (3pcs) for nano tanks
These velvety green spheres, often sold as marimo, are not a true moss at all but a ball-shaped form of green algae that grows into that neat round shape under gentle water movement. They are about as low-maintenance as live decor gets, which is why we recommend them to beginners and to anyone wanting greenery in a desktop bowl or nano cube without committing to a full planted setup. This pack gives you three.
Care is genuinely simple: rest them on the substrate, give occasional gentle rolling so they keep their shape and stay green all round, and rinse them in old tank water during water changes. Worth noting, these prefer cooler water, so in our warm 27-29C tanks they will sit at the upper edge of comfort; keeping them out of direct strong light and warm spots helps them last. Shrimp love grazing over them.
