Growing Dennerle Anubias barteri nana ‘Bigfoot’ XL in Singapore
We recommend this XL ‘Bigfoot’ Anubias to hobbyists who want immediate impact: the broad, oversized leaves fill space in a new layout from day one, which suits larger display tanks where a small plant would look lost. Like all Anubias, it is an epiphyte, so we tie or glue the rhizome to driftwood or stone rather than burying it. Bury the rhizome and it rots, which is the single most common mistake we see.
This is a forgiving plant for our conditions. It thrives at SG room temperature of 27-29C without a chiller, tolerates our soft slightly-acidic tap water, and does not demand CO2, so it is ideal for low-tech HDB tanks. Keep lighting moderate to low; strong light over slow-growing Anubias mainly feeds algae that settles on the old leaves. Wipe leaves gently at water changes to keep them clean and photosynthesising well.
See our epiphytes collection for companions, and read the Anubias plant guide plus rhizome division and propagation to multiply yours. If leaves develop dark marks, our black spots fix walks through the causes.
