Dried Gammarus as a Treat in Singapore Tanks
Dried Gammarus pulex are small freshwater crustaceans that make an excellent natural treat for larger fish and turtles. The chitin in their shells acts as roughage that helps regulate digestion, which is why many keepers use Gammarus to help prevent constipation in fish prone to bloating, and the natural beta-carotene gives a modest colour boost. It is a supplement and treat, not a complete staple, so use it alongside a balanced everyday food.
Turtle keepers here especially appreciate Gammarus, since semi-aquatic turtles relish it and the floating, easy-to-net pieces let you watch them feed and remove leftovers. In our warm 27-29C water, soak or pre-wet dried Gammarus before feeding heavy eaters so it rehydrates in the gut rather than expanding inside the fish, and feed only what is cleared promptly.
Treat it as a couple-of-times-a-week extra rather than a daily meal. Our feeding amounts and frequency guide helps with portioning, and the live versus dry food guide puts dried treats in context. Browse more options in our general fish food range.
