The plant is a cross between several different cultivated plants, including Echinodorus horemanii and several round-leafed Echinodorus species.

Growing Echinodorus ‘Aquartica’ in Singapore Aquariums

Echinodorus ‘Aquartica’ is a forgiving sword cultivar for Singapore aquascapers, prized for its round, bright green leaves and compact 10-20cm habit that make it a tidy decorative solitary plant. Being slow-growing and easy, it holds that fresh green even under modest lighting and ordinary nutrient levels, so you do not need a high-tech setup to enjoy it. Our warm 27-29C water sits comfortably within its range, which makes it an easy fit for low-tech tanks.

As a rosette sword, it feeds heavily through its roots, so it rewards a nutritious substrate. We recommend tucking a root tab beneath the crown in inert gravel or sand to keep the leaves rich and green over time. Plant it so the crown sits just above the substrate, give it space as a standalone feature, and trim the occasional older leaf at the base to keep the rosette neat and open.
