Caring for Jewel Orchid Javanico Roxburghii in Singapore

This jewel orchid is grown for its patterned, velvety foliage rather than for full submersion. We supply it potted as a terrestrial or emersed plant, and that is how it stays happiest: roots in moist substrate with humid air around the leaves, not drowned in the water column. In Singapore that suits us, since our naturally high humidity keeps these orchids turgid with far less effort than keepers in drier climates spend.

Set it in a covered terrarium, paludarium margin, or the damp emersed zone of an open-top scape where it gets bright but indirect light. Avoid harsh direct sun through a window, which scorches the delicate leaves and washes out the markings.
