Bacopa Monnieri for Singapore Freshwater Tanks
Bacopa monnieri, often called moneywort, is one of the toughest beginner stem plants we stock, with rounded succulent-like leaves on upright stems that lend a clean, structured look to a scape. It is genuinely hard to kill, coping with our soft, slightly acidic tap water and ambient 27-29C without a heater. That resilience makes it a smart first live plant for HDB and condo aquarists who are still learning the rhythm of dosing and water changes.
Growth is slow to medium, so it stays tidy and does not overrun a nano tank. The dense upright stems offer cover and grazing surfaces for shrimp and small fish, while the plant quietly takes up nitrate as it grows. Brighter light keeps the internodes short and compact; in dimmer corners it stretches and leggy stems can shade their own bases, so give it a reasonably lit spot and trim the tops to replant when it reaches the surface.
