Homalomena Silver Red in the Planted Aquarium
This Homalomena pairs cool silvery overlay with reddish undertones, giving a subtle two-tone leaf that catches the eye without shouting. We value it as a durable, slow-growing midground plant for hobbyists who want lasting structure rather than constant trimming. It shares the easy-going nature of the aroid family, so it settles comfortably into local community tanks at ambient temperature and in the soft, conditioned tap water we have on hand here.
As with all Homalomena it grows from a rhizome that must stay above the substrate; bury it and the plant rots from the base. Mount it on hardscape or wedge it between stones so water flows around the roots. It draws nutrients mainly from the water column, so regular liquid dosing keeps the foliage strong, while CO2 is helpful but not essential for healthy, if leisurely, growth.
