Keeping the Black Ghost Knife Fish in Singapore
The Black Ghost Knife is a striking, nocturnal oddball that grows far larger than most buyers expect, so we always flag tank size before sale. A juvenile looks tiny in the bag, but an adult needs a long, spacious aquarium with smooth driftwood, PVC tubes or rockwork to retreat into during the day. They are soft-bodied and scaleless, which makes them sensitive to water quality and to any sharp decor, so a mature, well-filtered tank is essential.
Our warm 27-29C tap water actually suits them well, and many SG keepers run them heaterless, but stability matters more than temperature. They appreciate the soft, slightly acidic water our supply leans toward. Feed meaty foods like bloodworm and small earthworms, and keep tankmates peaceful and not small enough to be eaten overnight. These fish learn to hand-feed and recognise their keeper over time.
Acclimate slowly and dim the lights when introducing them, following our acclimation guide and the species detail in our Black Ghost Knifefish care guide. Browse more unusual stock under others.
