Product Information

Nutrition for aquarium plants: Healthy plants are important for every aquarium. Plants supply the aquarium with vital oxygen for the aquarium dwellers, prevent algae growth and remove pollutants.
Healthy plants = healthy fish: Healthy plants prevent algae growth, supply oxygen, remove pollutants, provide hiding places and reduce pathogens.
For the plants to flourish the following demands need to be met: Light as energy source for the photosynthesis of CO2, nutrients and trace elements as growth promoters., With JBL fertilisers you supply the plants with all main nutrients and essential trace elements., This way the plants get all the required nutrients they need to absorb over the leaves and roots to prevent deficiency symptoms (e.g. iron deficiency).

JBL Florapol Iron Substrate for New SG Planted Tanks

JBL Florapol is a long-term base-layer substrate fertiliser you mix into the lower substrate when setting up a new planted tank. It is rich in iron and clay, and acts as a nutrient depot that stores trace elements and releases them to roots as plants demand, reportedly effective for years. For Singapore hobbyists planning a fresh planted build, it is the kind of foundation work that pays off slowly, feeding root-feeders long after the initial water-column dosing has been used up.

The key point is that it goes in at setup, not after: you blend the concentrate into the base layer, then cap it with a few centimetres of washed gravel or sand so it stays buried and the water stays clear. Disturbing it later releases clouds and nutrients into the open water, so we plant heavy root-feeders and arrange hardscape thoughtfully before it goes in. Being phosphate and nitrate free, it builds plant strength without handing our warm-climate tanks an early algae bloom.

It pairs naturally with a quality cap and liquid dosing later on. Browse our substrate range, and read our guides on active versus inert substrate and the aquarium root tabs guide.
