SUDO S-8850 Phantom Black Sand for high-contrast aquascapes

This 1kg natural black sand is one of our go-to bases when keepers want fish colours and green plants to pop. A dark substrate makes neon tetras, cherry shrimp and red plants look noticeably more saturated, which is why it is popular for display tanks in Singapore living rooms. Being pre-washed natural sand, it does not alter water parameters, so it sits happily over our soft, slightly acidic tap water without buffering it one way or the other.

Note that this grain runs slightly larger than a fine true-black sand, so it sits a touch chunkier underfoot and resists clouding when fish dig. We still give it a quick rinse to clear residual dust, then lay it 2-3cm deep for a planted look or thinner for a clean minimalist bed. For corydoras and other sand-sifters the rounded natural grain is gentle on barbels, making it a safe foreground choice.
