Taxiphyllum barbieri (Java Moss) in Tissue Culture
This is the classic Java moss, supplied as a clean tissue-culture cup so you start with bright, pest-free strands rather than a tangled pad that might carry snails or algae. As an epiphyte it is not planted in substrate; instead you spread thin layers over driftwood, rock or mesh and tie or glue it down. Keeping the layer thin matters, since thick clumps trap detritus and brown off underneath while the surface keeps growing.
Java moss is famously undemanding and thrives in Singapore tanks. Our warm 27-29C ambient is fine, it accepts soft slightly acidic tap water, and it grows under modest light with or without CO2, making it ideal for low-tech and nano setups. It is also a shrimp-keeper favourite, giving Caridina and Neocaridina grazing surfaces and shelter for berried females and tiny shrimplets.
