Hydrocotyle tripartita ‘Mini’ Carpeting in Singapore
The ‘Mini’ form of this pennywort is one of our favourite foreground plants for hobbyists who want a carpet without committing to high-tech demands. Its tiny clover-shaped leaves creep horizontally and climb low over rock, knitting into a bumpy green mat. Plant small portions of the potted clump spaced across the front; in our warm Singapore tanks it establishes quickly and can grow surprisingly fast, so plan for regular trimming to keep it flat.
It is flexible about water, taking our soft, slightly acidic dechlorinated tap in stride, and it will carpet even under moderate light, though brighter LEDs and CO2 give the tightest, most compact growth. Pinch back vertical runners weekly so the mat stays dense rather than shaggy. For nano and HDB-friendly setups, its small leaf size keeps proportions looking right in tanks under two feet.
See our dedicated Hydrocotyle tripartita ‘Mini’ carpet guide and the low-tech route in how to grow carpet without CO2. More options sit in our foreground plants category.
