Buceps
Our Bucephalandra collection brings together one of the most rewarding epiphyte genera for the planted tank, with named varieties like Pink Lady, Red Banaza, Sp. Akantha, the Sokan form and the rounder Lamandau type. These slow-growing rhizome plants from Borneo throw glossy, often iridescent leaves in shades of green, blue and deep red, and like Anubias they're meant to be tied or glued onto rock and wood rather than planted into substrate. Buces suit Singapore tanks well, but our warm water is the one thing to watch: they're happiest in the cooler, more stable end of the tropical range, so they hold colour and resist melt best in aircon rooms or chiller-cooled tanks, and in low-to-moderate light that keeps algae off their slow new growth. Gentle flow and patience matter more than fertiliser dosing here, since most of their charm comes from compact, deliberate growth. New to the genus? Start with our Bucephalandra care guide and the collection types comparison to choose a variety, and if leaves dull or pale after a move, the browning leaves fix walks through the usual causes. Browse the rest of our live plants range to pair them with mosses and ferns.
